Sally Beauty Supply Haul for August 2013

I recently noticed many of my combs are missing. I have an idea what happened to them (my youngest daughter Naomi). I did get better at finger detangling though. I was debating if I was going to ask Naomi for my combs back of just buy new ones. I found it was much easier to buy more combs, LOL!

I have 4C type (tightly coiled) hair and that calls for a wide toothcomb. I find it easier to part my hair using a rattail comb. I am going to hide these combs from Naomi.

I think I may be turning into a product junkie. 😉 The Roots of Nature Butter Whip Coil Cream ™ was marked down at Sally Beauty Supply.

HauteLook Haul: Featuring Koh Gen Do

The nice thing about HauteLook is that you can buy makeup from brands that aren’t available in ULTA or Sephora. HauteLook featured makeup from Koh Gen Do cosmetics. Koh Gen Do is a makeup and skincare company from Japan. Needless to say I was intrigued. Having a dark complexion I knew the face products featured would be too light for me. I did order the Maifanshi Mineral Eye Shadow quad. There was something about those colors I really liked.

The eyeshadows are soft and blend nicely. I didn’t experience that much fall out. Midnight Blue is my favorite color from this quad.

Rite Aid Haul (I was only supposed to be buying school supplies)

I recently visited Rite-Aid to get school supplies for my youngest daughter Naomi. She tagged along to make sure I bought the ink pens she really liked. While at Rite-Aid these items also found their way into my cart.

Image

Maybelline Baby Lips Electro Moisturizing Lip Balm in Pink Shock  Baby Lips great at moisturizing your lips while providing a hint of color. Naomi wanted to try one for herself. She usually wears lip gloss.

Image

The Limited Edition Great Lash Colored Mascaras are back. I like the colors this year better than the ones last year. Naomi picked I See Blue for herself.

Image

Sally Hansen Fuzzy Coat Special Effect Textured Nail Color in Tight Knit. Naomi saw these nail polishes at the nail salon she frequents. She wanted to try one for herself.

Image

Garnier Fructis Sleek & Shine Moroccan Sleek Oil Treatment. I use this oil as a pre-poo and have been really happy with the results. The other bottle I had ran out thanks to Naomi.

Fun, Fit & Fabulous Women’s Health Conference

I attended the Fun, Fit & Fabulous Women’s Health Conference that was held August 17, 2013 at the Wyndham Grand Hotel in Pittsburgh, PA. This conference was sponsored by Highmark Blue Cross Blue Shield. The conference started off with a fitness warm-up to get the ladies moving in the morning. The women could take advantage of the health screenings that were being offered or attend the seminars.

After did my health screenings, I attended a cooking demonstration being conducted by Elise Wims. Elise, a Pittsburgh native participated on Season 9 of Hell’s Kitchen where she placed third overall. She made a delicious watermelon salad.  I also attended another cooking demonstration Elise held in the afternoon where she made her goddess smoothie. Her website also has recipes. http://www.elisethedivachef.com/

Jeannette Jenkins was also the keynote speaker for the women’s health conference. She shared her knowledge of fitness and nutrition. By the way, Jeannette is a very sweet person and comical. You can tell she truly loves and is passionate about what she does. I already follow her on Twitter and Instagram. http://www.thehollywoodtrainer.com/

A Closer Look: The Oprah Magazine Let’s Talk About Hair September 2013 Issue

This was the first time I ever bought The Oprah Magazine. There was so much hype about the September 2013 issue on the Internet. My curiosity got the best of me. Oprah looks fantastic on the cover rocking that afro wig’! I wanted to read the article first and not just post a picture of the cover on my blog.

Image

I’m actually glad I bought the magazine. It was very informative. Various women also shared their hair journeys in the article. The article also included a glossary of terms. Everything women do to their hair was discussed in the article.  I do recommend picking up a copy of the Let’s Talk About Hair September 2013 issue.  You are not alone in the hair struggle. 😉

HauteLook and Sephora Haul

Image

In case you haven’t already noticed, I have a weakness for whenever Crown Brush is on HauteLook. As far as affordable makeup brushes go, Crown Brush is at the top of my list. HauteLook always offers special deals and sets when they feature Crown Brush.

Image

What I purchased was the Crown Brush – HauteLook Exclusive – 3-Piece Studio Pro Eye Kit. This brush set consisted of:

Image

Chisel Shader Brush I like using to highlight under my browbone or inner corner of my eyes. I will also use this brush to smudge eyeliner under my lower lash line.

Precision Detail Brush I like using in the crease or the outer V. I also use to brush to smudge my eyeliner.

Blending Brush I like using in the crease to add color or to blend away harsh lines. I also use a blending brush whenever I apply a blending color during my eye makeup application.

Image

I also took advantage of the sale Sephora was offering the Urban Decay Vintage 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencil. The eyeliners are currently on sale for $6.00 each.

These are the colors I purchased:

  • Graffiti – bright green with silver sparkle
  • Flipside – bright teal
  • Deviant – electric blue

Style Week Pittsburgh

Image

Pittsburgh just celebrated its first style week. This was a week of fashion-focused events that started Wednesday, August 7, 2013 and ended Sunday, August 11, 2013. I went to the Beauty Boot Camp that was held at LaLa’s Salon in Pittsburgh August 11th.

Makeup Artist Brittney D. Webster was giving the makeovers.

Sally Beauty Supply Haul

I am always amazed when I go to Sally Beauty Supply and actually purchase items I need. I am always tempted to buy nail polish.

I decided to try the Elasta QP Olive Oil & Mango Butter Curl Defining Pudding. My youngest daughter has been wearing her hair in pin curls throughout the Summer. In the past she has used the Coil Moisturizing Souffle from Dark and Lovely.

Image

Image

I also bought the QP Elasta Recovery Anti-Breakage Oil Moisturizer for my youngest daughter. She has made this product a regular part of her hair care routine.

Image

The last item I purchased was the Proclaim Coconut Oil. I recently made coconut oil a part of my natural hair care routine. I use it to seal my ends after I wash my hair. 🙂
