I took advantage of the buy one get one free sale Walgreen’s had on Shea Moisture products.
This is what I purchased.
- Jamaican Black Castor Oil Strengthen, Grow & Restore Leave-In Conditioner
- Jamaican Black Castor Oil Strengthen Grow & Restore Treatment Masque
- Raw Shea Butter Moisture Retention Shampoo
- Raw Shea Butter Restorative Conditioner
I stuck with the Raw Shea Butter Moisture Retention Shampoo and Restorative Conditioner. I didn’t feel the need to try a different shampoo and conditioner at this time.
I started using the Jamaican Black Castor Oil Strengthen, Grow & Restore Leave-In Conditioner during the Winter. It’s been a great addition to my haircare routine.
I’ve had my eyes on the Jamaican Black Castor Oil Strengthen Growth & Restore Treatment Masque for quite some time. I’m glad Walgreen’s had this in stock.

The International Natural Hair Meetup Day was held Saturday May 30, 2015. Various locations throughout the world held this event. I attended the International Natural Hair Meet Up that was held in Pittsburgh, PA. The Pittsburgh based natural hair group It’s a Natural Thang sponsored this event In addition to having wonderful vendors, this event concluded with a special presentation. The presentation was called “International Hair, The Diaspora Edition: The drum, the braid, the dance.” The presentation documented the story of African descendants and gave an account of hairstyles/headwraps and dance traditions.
My purchase from the Ujamaa Collective located in the Hill District neighborhood of Pittsburgh, PA
E-MA’s Green Hair Food and Black Soap
Creative Lady Hand Crafted Hair Accessories purchase
I received a goodie bag for being one of the first 25 people who purchased a ticket to the International Natural Hair Meet Up.
One thing is for certain, Pittsburgh Winters are cold! My hair and skin really take a beating. This time around I made a couple of changes to my Winter hair routine.
Last year I got great results using the Ion Repair Solutions Reconstructor. In the past I would suffer from breakage during the Winter months. I wasn’t conditioning my hair enough. I use the Ion Repair Solutions Reconstructor as a weekly treatment for my hair.
This is actually the second bottle of the Jamaican Mango & Lime Jamaican Black Castor Oil with Rosemary I purchased. I massage my scalp with this castor oil. I will be using this Jamaican black castor oil with rosemary to seal my ends as well.
Shea Moisture released the Jamaican Black Castor Oil Strengthen Grow & Restore collection last year. I picked the leave-in conditioner as something to try from this collection.
I went to Sally Beauty Supply recently to new my Beauty Club membership. I am usually tempted to buy a bunch of nail polish. This time I stuck to my store list. LOL!
Bobby pins always disappear in my house. I plan on hiding these bobby pins from my daughters. 😉
Normally I buy the Jamaican Black Castor Oil from the brand Tropic Isle Living. When I heard Sally Beauty Supply starting carrying the Jamaican Mango & Lime ™ brand, I decided to give it a try. There were four kinds to choose from: original, lavender, coconut, and rosemary. I chose rosemary since rosemary oil stimulates the blood vessels when massaged regularly into the scalp.
I also received a free haircare product for renewing my membership. I choose the Ion Repair Solutions Effective Care ™ Treatment. I use this as a deep conditioner. I usually buy the packs though. This should last me a while.
This week all Shea Moisture products are buy one get one free at Walgreens. You need the Walgreens Rewards card to get the savings though.
My youngest daughter and I already use the Raw Shea Butter Moisture Retention Shampoo and Restorative Conditioner. We are both pleased with how our hair has been responding to this combination.
Since my youngest daughter already does a good job of taking care of her hair, I bought the Deep Treatment Masque and Extra-Moisture Detangler for her. I know she will continue with her hair routine using these products.
The Shea Moisture product line does make it easier to stick to a natural hair routine. 🙂
The calendar may say it’s Spring, however; Winter hasn’t quite let go in my neck of the woods. I live in the northeast section of the United States. This past Winter was listed as one of the coldest on record. There were even some below zero days and a lot of snow. Pittsburgh, PA has had some warm days but that weather hasn’t lasted.
Winter is extremely hard on my skin and hair. Here are the products I used.
- Ion Reconstructor
- Shea Oil
- Cantu Shea Butter Leave In Conditioner Repair Cream
- Trader Joe’s Organic Virgin Coconut Oil
- Shea Butter
- Carol’s Daughter Healthy Hair Butter
- Carol’s Daughter Tui Leave In Conditioner
I used the Carol’s Daughter Tui Leave In Conditioner to add extra moisture to my hair. The dry air makes my hair feel crunchy. This leave in conditioner eliminated that.
I used the Carol’s Daughter Healthy Hair Butter as a part of the LOC method (leave in, oil, cream) in my hair routine. This cream is the last step of that.
The bitter cold caused dry patches on my face. I used the Organic Virgin Coconut Oil from Trader Joe’s to remedy that.
The shea oil was a part of the LOC method in my hair routine. I used to use castor oil to seal my ends. I like the shea oil much better.
I hardly used traditional lotion during the Winter. My skin wasn’t ashy at all when I used the shea butter.
I’ve gotten in the habit giving my hair protein treatments. That’s why I use Ion Reconstructor as a deep conditioner.
I’ve read some really positive reviews on the Cantu Shea Butter Leave In Conditioner Repair Cream. This is the first step in LOC method of my hair routine.
I will probably make some adjustments to my beauty routine once the weather warms up. One thing for certain I am keeping the products for the LOC hair method and the Ion Reconstructor. They seem to be working.

Last week I stopped by Macy’s to see if there was any Carol’s Daughter left in stock. Luckily there was.
Hair Milk Original Leave-In Moisturizer Trial Size
Lisa’s Hair Elixir Scalp & Hair Health Restoring Hair Oil
I bought a bottle of Lisa’s Hair Elixir for myself and my oldest daughter. I’m such a good mommy. 🙂
I belong to the Pittsburgh based natural hair community on Facebook called It’s a Natural Thang. Recently someone posted the Macy’s in Pittsburgh was no longer carrying Carol’s Daughter. The inventory already in stock was being marked down to 50%. You don’t have to tell me twice when Carol’s Daughter is 50% off.
This is what I purchased.
Monoi Repairing Split End Sealer, Monoi Repairing Collection
I have purchased both the Monoi Repairing Split End Sealer and the Monoi Repairing Collection in the past for my oldest daughter. She flat irons her hair and I’m trying to get her in the habit of taking better care of her tresses.
Tui Moisturizing Leave-In Conditioner, Healthy Hair Butter Protective Cream Hairdress
I originally purchased the Tui Moisturizing Leave-In Conditioner and the Healthy Hair Butter earlier this year. I am liking the results I’ve been getting from this combination. I purchased more so I have enough to carry me through the rest of this Winter. This has been preventing my hair from drying out.
Black Vanilla Moisturizing Leave-In Conditioner, Marguerite’s Magic Restorative Cream Hairdress
I decided. the try out the Black Vanilla Moisturizing Leave-In Conditioner and Marguerite’s Magic Restorative Cream Hairdress. More tools for my haircare arsenal. 😉
This is my first HauteLook purchase of 2014. YAYYY!!! I had a $10.00 credit I wanted to use.
I really like Carol’s Daughter. I can’t always afford the products though. The Winter has been extremely cold in my area. I figured it wouldn’t hurt to add a couple of things to my hair care arsenal.
Healthy Hair Butter Protective Cream Hairdress
Tui Moisturizing Leave-In Conditioner
Keeping my hair moisturized during this Winter has been a challenge. Hopefully the Healthy Hair Butter and Tui Moisturizing Leave-In Conditioner will give my hair the extra moisture it needs. 🙂
To make sure I continue to take care of my hair during the Winter months, I went to Sally Beauty Supply. I decided to try another conditioner from the Ion Repair Solutions line. The Intensive Therapy Protein Rebuilder is a reconstructor for weak and damaged hair. Winter does stress out my hair so this conditioner is worth a try.
I also purchased bottles to make it easier for me to use the natural oils I purchased from Coastal Scents. I plan on making my own hot oil treatments too. 😉
