How I Survived the Rest of the Summer Beauty Favorites

The Fall weather is finally here in my area of the United States. I can always count on Pittsburgh Summers to be very hot and humid. It’s challenging to be cute in this type of weather. LOL! These are the beauty products I relied on to not look a hot mess during the Summer.

  • Black Soap from Nature’s Shea Butter
  • Urban Decay Perversion Mascara
  • BH Cosmetics Liquid Foundation – Deep Beige
  • NYX Eyebrow Gel – Espresso
  • NYX Above & Beyond Full Coverage Concealer
  • BH Cosmetics 24 Piece Synthetic Makeup Brush Set
  • NYX Retractable Waterproof Eyeliner – Silky Cashmere
  • Stila Smudge Stick Waterproof Eye Liner – Lionfish
  • Shea Moisture Coconut & Hibiscus Hand & Body Scrub
  • Shea Terra Organics White Chocolate Whipped Shea Butter Ultimate Moisturizing Body Cream

Summer Survival FaceThe skin on my face when the humidity is low is typically combination/oily. I notice my skin is oilier during the Summer with all the humidity. The Black Soap from Nature’s Shea Butter cleansed my skin thoroughly and helped keep my complexion clear.

Summer Survival SkinSpeaking of skin, the Shea Moisture Coconut & Hibiscus Hand & Body Scrub made my skin soft and smooth.

I applied the Shea Terra Organics White Chocolate Whipped Shea Butter after I bathed. This shea butter wasn’t greasy either.

Summer Survival Eyes

I received the deluxe sample of the Urban Decay Perversion Mascara from my August 2014 ipsy Bag. I instantly fell in love with this mascara. I didn’t necessarily need to wear eyeliner with this mascara. This was great for those mornings I was in a hurry.

I used NYX Retractable Waterproof Eyeliner in Silky Cashmere on my waterline to brighten my eyes. This was also a time saver for me when I didn’t wear a lot of eye makeup. I paired this eyeliner with the Urban Decay Perversion Mascara.

The Stila Smudge Stick Waterproof Eyeliner in Lionfish was a nice alternative for me instead of using black eyeliner on my lower lash line. For some black eyeliner can be a bit harsh. This eyeliner also gave me a natural look.

I really love the NYX Eyebrow Gel in Espresso. It stood up to Pittsburgh humidity. This eyebrow gel lasted all day. A little goes a long way.

Summer Survival FoundationI was really surprised by the performance and coverage of the BH Cosmetics Liquid Foundation. I originally bought two shades for myself (Deep Beige and Deep Cocoa). I found myself reaching for the Deep Beige more since I thought it was a better match on me. The color is buildable. This foundation didn’t make my skin oily and it didn’t oxidize.

Summer Survival Concealer  The NYX Above & Beyond Full Coverage Concealer in Nutmeg has been my go to concealer. This concealer did a great job on covering my blemish scars and hyper-pigmentation without feeling heavy.

Summer Survival BrushesI got a lot of use out of my BH Cosmetics 24 Piece Synthetic Brush Set. This set has all the brushes I used for the on Wednesdays we wear pink series I did for the Summer. The brushes didn’t shed when I cleaned them either.

Christmas in July Sale from Nature’s Shea Butter

This is what happens when you introduce your daughters to the benefits of using shea butter. I had to order more. Lucky for me Nature’s Shea Butter had a Christmas in July Sale. This sale didn’t last long so I had to place an order rather quickly. I got 40% off this purchase when I used the coupon code that was provided.

Here is my order.

Nature's Shea Butter July Order

Nature's Shea Butter July Order2

Vanilla Ylang Ylang Shea Butter  The Vanilla Ylang Ylang Shea Butter is a favorite in my household. I ordered four just to keep the peace. LOL!

Coconut Mango Shea Butter  I ordered four of the Coconut Mango Shea Butters. I didn’t get a chance to try this when I first ordered this scent. My oldest daughter ended up using this shea butter. I should be able to try the Coconut Mango Shea Butter now.

Lavender Vanilla Shea Butter  I ordered two of the Lavender Vanilla Shea Butters since this is my third favorite scent.

Lavender Oatmeal Soap  I received a sample of the Handmade Lavender Oatmeal Bar Soap when I last placed an order for Mother’s Day. I loved this sample and ordered a full size of this soap.

The nice thing about Nature’s Shea Butter is that you get samples with each order.

The Body Shop Haul

I had a Groupon I needed to use before it expired. The Groupon was $30 for in-store merchandise at the Body Shop. I will admit I was a little overwhelmed when I entered the Ross Park Mall store. The Body Shop was having a sale. I had no idea what to purchase with my Groupon. Lucky for me Christopher, the sales associate gave me some suggestions.

Shea Terra Organics Purchase from Birchbox

Birchbox recently gave me a coupon code for 25% off any purchase from their Website. The coupon code was to celebrate me receiving my 25th Birchcbox.

Image

I came across the Shea Terra Organics Whipped Shea Butter Ultimate Moisturizing Body Crème. There were several scents to choose from. I chose the White Chocolate scent and it smells absolutely delicious.

If I wasn’t addicted to shea butter before, I am now! LOL!

Natural Products Purchase from Coastal Scents

Coastal Scents had an Earth Day sale. This sale lasted for a week. All of their natural products were 35% off. This included their soaps, butter, oils, and essential oils.

Image

Since I’ve already been using the shea oil on my hair, it seemed logical to order another bottle.

Image

I also ordered more of the shea butter. My daughters have also been using shea butter. Winter was very hard on my oldest daughter’s skin. Regular lotion wasn’t working. I gave her some shea butter to try. She no longer has dry patches on her skin. My youngest daughter had burned her hand a little using a curling iron. I told her to try some shea butter since this was a minor burn. The shea butter worked on that as well.

I ordered the cocoa butter because it was on sale too.

I was also given a sample of the black soap. I’ve read great reviews about this soap and can’t wait to try it.

Still Using My Winter Beauty Routine

The calendar may say it’s Spring, however; Winter hasn’t quite let go in my neck of the woods. I live in the northeast section of the United States. This past Winter was listed as one of the coldest on record. There were even some below zero days and a lot of snow. Pittsburgh, PA has had some warm days but that weather hasn’t lasted.

Winter is extremely hard on my skin and hair. Here are the products I used.

Image

  • Ion Reconstructor
  • Shea Oil
  • Cantu Shea Butter Leave In Conditioner Repair Cream
  • Trader Joe’s Organic Virgin Coconut Oil
  • Shea Butter
  • Carol’s Daughter Healthy Hair Butter
  • Carol’s Daughter Tui Leave In Conditioner

Image

I used the Carol’s Daughter Tui Leave In Conditioner to add extra moisture to my hair. The dry air makes my hair feel crunchy. This leave in conditioner eliminated that.

Image

I used the Carol’s Daughter Healthy Hair Butter as a part of the LOC method (leave in, oil, cream) in my hair routine. This cream is the last step of that.

Image

The bitter cold caused dry patches on my face. I used the Organic Virgin Coconut Oil from Trader Joe’s to remedy that.

Image

The shea oil was a part of the LOC method in my hair routine. I used to use castor oil to seal my ends. I like the shea oil much better.

Image

I hardly used traditional lotion during the Winter. My skin wasn’t ashy at all when I used the shea butter.

Image

I’ve gotten in the habit giving my hair protein treatments. That’s why I use Ion Reconstructor as a deep conditioner.

Image

I’ve read some really positive reviews on the Cantu Shea Butter Leave In Conditioner Repair Cream. This is the first step in LOC method of my hair routine.

I will probably make some adjustments to my beauty routine once the weather warms up. One thing for certain I am keeping the products for the LOC hair method and the Ion Reconstructor. They seem to be working.

HauteLook Haul: Featuring Nature’s Shea Butter

Image

I’ve been obsessed with shea butter recently. My skin has been doing really well this Winter since I’ve added this to my beauty routine. I was intrigued when I saw Nature’s Shea Butter on HauteLook. I decided to give this brand a try. I purchased the Shea Butter Mini Sampler 12-Piece Set.

I do see a difference in a color of the three shea butters above.

I also purchased a bottle of the Nature’s Shea Butter Argan Oil. I really wanted to try an argan oil that was pure.

CVS Haul: Featuring SheaMoisture

This week SheaMoisture products were buy one get one free. Hair care and baby products were included in this sale. This is actually the second time I have purchased SheaMoisture hair care products. The first time was for my oldest. The African Black Soap shampoo and conditioner worked wonders in soothing her dry scalp. I also purchased the Yucca & Baobab Anti-Breakage Masque. She said the mask made her hair soft and easy to detangle.

This time it was my turn to buy SheaMoisture for myself. I have made a serious effort this year to take better care of my hair. In the past my hair would get extremely dry during the Winter months and break off. I know Shea Moisture is very popular in the natural hair care community. I was already in the process of making changes to my hair routine. With SheaMoisture being buy one get one free I knew I had to take advantage of such a great deal.

My hair isn’t damaged, but I’m trying to prevent it from drying out.

Image

I don’t consider myself as having fine or thin hair. This was the only hair masque type conditioner that was left at the CVS I visited.

Image

Image

Figured I’d try the Curl Enhancing Smoothie on my twist outs and bantu knot outs.
